The Running Bug

not exactly aiming to be in Sydney Bristow shape...

Well apparently I have been absolute rubbish at blogging in 2010! I am going to blame it on business, however, as the spring semester here at Smith College has been taking over my life (naturally) as well as study abroad applications taking up a huge chunk of my time (I ended up applying to Oxford and Glasgow, how exciting!!!)

One of the biggest changes I have been making in 2010 (besides creating collages!) that has been taking up time is my new-found love of running. In high school, we had to run a mile for the “Presidential Fitness Challenge” and I more often than not would just choose to walk it. Whether from laziness or embarrassment at my own incapability of running a mile, I would ignore glares from my gym teachers and complain my way around the track.

Now, while I still have what will probably be a lifelong hatred of gym class, I decided at some point last year that I was going to make myself run a mile. First I had to reach the goal of running 10 minutes straight, which I accomplished a couple of weeks ago. Then came the mile. Then on this past Thursday, two straight miles. It has been such an incredible feeling seeing myself get into better shape and watching my endurance go up. Though I still need to tackle healthy food (eating a box of Tim Tams sent to me from Australia is so worth it, though!) I am so proud that I have finally hit my stride with exercise and am meeting my goals.

mmm, tim tams
